The pentacle is regarded as sacred geometry and a powerful protective symbol for thousands of years. Found within the design of Nature, from the five-petaled apple blossom to the seed configuration within the fruit itself, it carries association with witchcraft, mysticism and the Goddess. The tradition of ceremonial magic designates the points as representative of the elements: Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit at the topmost. It is the contemporary religious symbol of Wicca and Neo-paganism. The triquetra, known as the Trinity knot, represents a sacred triad and an unending flow. Often used to symbolize the Triple Goddess, it invokes the inspiring prose of the Irish who wrote their wisdom in threefold. The Triquetra can be found as a reoccurring motif in the book of Kells and other illuminated manuscripts, in the churches and ancient cultural artifacts of Ireland, and a deeper root extends from the Norse runestones of Northern Europe that bear its mark.
